ABOUT US

Thyskor is a local initiative to coordinate the response of Kouga residents and stakeholders to the challenges and opportunities presented by the Thyspunt development. While there are many players in the game, such as Eskom, local government, business and civil society, most are not exclusively focused on Thyspunt. Thyskor will aim to coordinate investments and opportunities arising from the construction of the Thyspunt nuclear power plant for the benefit of individuals and companies based in the Kouga region.

SERVICES

Initially the founders of Thyskor will setup a social media presence on Facebook and Google+. We will use these facilities to explain our intentions and gauge support for the concept. We will build a local communications infrastructure. We will attempt to establish links and alliances with all interested parties and individuals. We will collect, store and present as much information on Thyspunt as possible.

We aim to use a decentralised and distributed organisational structure known as the “swarmwise” approach, developed by the Swedish activist called Falkvinge.

Thyspunt Korporasie (Pty) Ltd (Thyskor) is a private for-profit limited liability company based in Kouga in the Eastern Cape. It is not a non-profit, or an NGO, or a para-statal.

The primary purpose of the company is to coordinate investments and opportunities arising from the construction of the Thyspunt nuclear power plant for the benefit of individuals and companies based in the Kouga region.Thyskor will invite partnerships with businesses based in Kouga and surrounding areas.

Thyskor will offer products and services in the following areas:

  • legal support
  • tender submissions
  • financial management
  • communication and marketing
  • training research
  • employee management
  • best practices
  • strategic planning
  • information technology

Thyskor will establish a database of skills available amongst its partners.

Thyskor will obtain the many certifications necessary to do business in South Africa (SARS, BEE, Safety, etc)

Thyskor will register as an interested party in the Thyspunt EIA.

Thyskor will investigate and apply for sources of funding for Thyspunt related activities (Municipal, provincial, national, Eskom, etc)

Thyskor will immediately start analysing investment opportunities related to Thyspunt in a coordinated and structured manner (eg, property acquisitions, resource acquisitions (eg road materials, equipment), available services (eg catering, accommodation, mapping), available manpower (registry of skills))

Thyskor will monitor all tenders issued in the Kouga region, with an emphasis on Thyspunt related tenders. Where appropriate, tender submissions will be prepared. Thyskor will leverage its local Kouga advantage wherever possible. Thyskor will be the holding company with the appropiate certification, financial resources, experience, contacts and gravitas to apply for tenders, on behalf of the many smaller companies with which it has established partnerships. Where local companies cannot be found, Thyskor will establish partnerships with external companies with the necessary skills.

Because of its base in Kouga, Thyskor will be sensitive to local concerns over environmental impacts, local employment, social impacts, etc.

Thyskor will provide consulting expertise to possibly inexperienced local suppliers and contractors (eg project management, financing, risk management, employee management).

Thyskor will attempt to upgrade local skills through training programs, seminars and publications.

Thyskor will leverage information technology skills on behalf of local companies, demonstrating best practice, etc.
